Rev H L Niederwimmer

Rev. Heinrich Ludwig Niederwimmer was born on February 8, 1891, at Emerald, Nebraska. He was left an orphan before he was fi ve years old and spent his childhood in the home of his uncle, Wm. Niederwimmer.

Following his confirmation in 1903, he entered Wartburg Academy at Clinton, IA. Upon the completion of the Academy courses, he continued his education as a student of Wartburg College in Clinton. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1911 and then entered the Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA.

Following his ordination, he served as an ordained pastor for 41 years in various churches, coming to Coleridge in September of 1924.

Rev. Niederwimmer served as pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge and the St. John Lutheran Church in Laurel for 31 years. During his charge here the church had made constant growth. The present church structure was built in 1926 and an addition was built to seat an additional 125 people in 1953, and more Sunday School rooms were added. The church had doubled in membership during his pastorate here.

Rev. Niederwimmer was active in the affairs of the American Lutheran Church and served as treasurer for 30 years. He had been a member of the Board of Trustees from 1947 until the time of his death.

On August 29, 1916, he was married to Adele Moehl, of Preston, IA. Five daughters were born to this union: Dorothy, Gretchen, Barbara, Martha and Adele.

He passed away on July 15, 1956, at his home in Coleridge. He had been in ill health since the preceding October, but had been active in his pastoral duties until about six weeks before his death. He was laid to rest on July 18, 1956, in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery.
